Nerve damage chances during total thyroidecgomy.?

Radioiodine ablation therapy will not work without first undergoing a completion thyroidectomy. It is always suggested that you remove the whole thyroid once cancer is diagnosed. When the surgeon is back inside, they can ess if the cancer spread to the cervical lymph nodes and removed any malignant ones. Nerve damage is a real thing, but if you have an expert surgeon who does hundreds a year and uses a recurrent laryngeal nerve monitor, your changes of nerve damage greatly decreases. You should get a second or third opinion for surgeons if you do not feel comfortable. Good luck!
