Temperment of a ***** in season?

I have just got another staffi, who on initial meeting got on well with the dog we have, he is neutered, she is really calm and laid back and was "standing" for my dog, we did discourage anything happening, now she is really snappy when he goes near her, is this a normal part of "season"
